Help wanted, and here are some ways you can contribute.

Help foster a community connection by
  • Helping out at events
  • Helping deliver programming
  • Helping maintain facilities 
  • Helping out at a fundraiser
  • Act as a community neighbourhood or block connector (as part of the Abundant Communities Edmonton program)

Help keep the neighbourhood informed
  • Newsletter/Communications - work with a small team to create and collect meaningful content for residents to stay informed

​Help with planning by serving on an LECL Committee
  • Events Committee - plan and throw one of our several annual events for the entire community
  • Programming - from social meet-ups to community sports, block parties to good neighbouring programs, help provide healthy, active living options with opportunities to meet your neighbours.
  • Facilities - from flooding the outdoor rink, to helping out at the community garden and more, this year could see an expansion of our facilities needs with the paving of the potter greens rink to provide year round recreation options.
  • Civic Matters - aid in discussions around park development, or natural area preservation and beautification, to community engagement on rezoning, help liaise with the city on all things involving development in our neighbourhoods
  • Fundraising - a critical component of any non-profit, this is the committee that looks for creative ways to raise funds (including casinos) that increase our capacity for everything else.

Communications Associate, Contract

About Lewis Estates Community League (LECL):
LECL, incorporated in 1993, represents over 4,000 households in the Lewis Estates area of Edmonton. Our focus is on enhancing community programs, events, and the development of parklands. We are committed to fostering a vibrant and engaged community through various activities and initiatives.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and community-minded Communications Associate to support our team. This role involves managing and executing our routine league communications, including preparing monthly e-newsletters, posting and engaging with our community on various social media platforms, website updates, and handling neighbourhood watch communications as needed. This position may also extend to moderating our Facebook group and preparing a bi-annual printed newsletter for distribution to over 4,000 households, budget permitting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and distribute monthly e-newsletters.
  • Manage and engage with our community on various social media platforms.
  • Regularly update the LECL website with current information and events.
  • Assist in neighbourhood watch communications and initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing a social media strategy including neighbourhood group moderation policies
  • Moderate our Facebook group

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in communications, social media management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of the mandates and volunteer structures of Edmonton's community leagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and website management tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Community-minded with a passion for enhancing local engagement and initiatives.
  • Experience with Google Workspace and Google Docs

Nice to Haves:
  • Currently lives in, or has lived in the Lewis Estates community
  • Knowledge of civic politics is an asset.
  • Experience preparing and coordinating a Biannual printed newsletter
  • Managing advertisers and ad placements
  • Experience with automation platforms like Zapier/Make
  • LLM Mastery or ChatGPT experience
